This year’s Battle of the Band was rockin’ The SPOT once again at the Shopping Town Mall in DeWitt, on Saturday, Jan. 17. Over 250 people gathered to watch the six bands perform at the Jewish Community Center’s 13th annual Battle of The Bands; K.G. Shields Band, Casual Plaid, Dan & the Pussykats, The Outer Loop, The Cuddle Fish and From Dusk Til' Dawn all competed for the win.

Judging the event were Ryan Gorham, from the Gorham Brothers Music, Scott Dixon from 95X Radio, Katrina Tulloch, an entertainment reporter for the Post-Standard, and Andrew Marotta and Chrissy Gerace, from last year’s winning band, Home Court Advantage. Entry fee for band registration was $40.

Casual Plaid, from Marcellus High, took home first place and a $200 prize. A first place win also included a prize pack from the Gorham Brothers Music and eight hours of studio recording time with the More Sound Studio of Syracuse.

The battle was also a nice way for the JCC to donate back. For every high school student admission, the JCC donated $1 to his or her high school’s music department.

Representing Jamesville-DeWitt High School was Dan and the Pussycatz. Members include seniors Matt Murad, Patty Hagan, Brady Wing, Joe Murphy, Dan Chamberlin, Ben Wipper, and Zach Gentile. Unfortunately, the band did not place first, though they did a wonderful job and had lots of support. Among their supporters was junior Alex Tso, senior Carly Stone, and senior Saqif Badruddin who were captured mid laugh in a picture that was taken during the band’s performance.

Pictures can be seen on the website: http://www.syracuse.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/01/casual_plaid_wins_2015_jcc_battle_of_the_bands.html  of the bands performances.
